These scholarships are designated for high school and community college students who are currently enrolled in a food science or science-based program focused and/or focused on a career in the food industry. Students must be residents of Washington State or Alaska, and/or attend a Washington or Alaska college or university.

Basis of Eligibility
These scholarships are available to high school and community/technical college students, who are focused on a career in the food industry and have interest in learning more about food science and food engineering.
Students must be residents of Washington State or Alaska and/or attend a Washington or Alaska community college, or the University of Idaho.
Scholarship amounts vary.
High School Applicants
● GPA ≥ 3.30 (cumulative)
● Available to junior and seniors only.
● Must be committed to taking the WSU or Centralia College food science online course.
● Applicants can only receive the scholarship once.
Community/Technical College Applicants
● GPA ≥ 3.30 (cumulative)
● Available to sophomores only.
● Must be committed to taking the WSU or Centralia College food science online course.
● Applicants can only receive the scholarship once.
Supporting Materials & Essay
Supporting Materials Each applicant must submit along with the application the following documentation:
● 2 letters of recommendation (one must be from your advisor), letters should include:
o Relationship to student; years known o Strengths of student
o Why is this student deserving of this honor?
● Essay with supporting documentation to include the 500-word essay and any additional material to support your essay.
o Essay Instructions: In no more than 500 words, please state what makes you a good candidate for this scholarship. Feel free to support with documentation or a video diary! Include as an additional attachment when submitting your application.
Some tips:
● Why are you interested in studying food science?
● Was there a specific event/moment your interest in food was piqued?
● What are your goals – short/long term?
